With Mears Park as its front yard, Galtier Plaza is situated on an entire city block in St. Paul’s downtown, connecting it with the Lowertown historic district.
Two stunning brick and glass housing towers of 30 and 46 stories rest on a base of retail and office space, a YMCA and a parking structure. The large public atrium at ground level serves as a focus for the whole development. Three enclosed skyway bridges tie the atrium to the extensive downtown skyway system.
To maintain the rhythm, texture and massing of nearby warehouses, the red brick fronts of the warehouses along the park side were rebuilt on the new elevation.
In 2003, Miller Hanson was rehired, to update the commons areas in the condominium tower.
